I know. I know. I’m late on this post but I thought I could just wave it aside and not over-flog the subject matter. I COULD NOT!
I’ve been trying to get over the dress Taylor Swift wore at the 2014 Grammy Awards but every time I attempt, I fail.
My cousin’s wedding is in a few weeks and every time I picture an outfit, I always seem to only be able to draw inspiration from that outfit.
I cannot say I’ve ever noticed TS as a fashion icon of any sort (except on red carpet events), she doesn’t necessarily stand out for me the way Solange does but I was impressed by that Gucci number she had on. It was the best fashion choice anyone could have made.
So TS was dressed in a gorgeous gold lamé Gucci Première gown that complimented both her skin tone and her figure.
That said, I would love to replicate this dress as best as I possibly can for my cousin’s wedding
and I will be back with pictures of my own soon.
I will be back soon. Till then crush on this dress as much as I am.

White is for the Bride or so we are told?
This post is long overdue… (Sigh) This wedding I attended in November of 2013. I’ve been away for far too long. Busy with a lot of other interesting things but not an excuse to abandon my first love.
This wedding, was beautiful and I decided to break norms. You know how we are conditioned to believe that White is reserved for the brides alone? Yes! I decided to break rules because a stylist knows that fashion rules must be broken or at least shifted but in subtlety most of the time.
I wasn’t trying to steal the bride’s shine. It wasn’t as if I could even, she was stunning.
I went with a white sheath dress with bejewelled neckline and colourful shoes just to add a bit of character and quirkiness. I was attempting to break norms. How do you think I did?
With fashion we are all allowed to express ourselves as we seem fit. Fashion should be both functional and fashionable.
Beauty in Friendship.
I have the most amazing friends. 5 amazing women to be precise. Friends I love to death and cherish every minute we have to spend together.
We have a tradition of celebrating birthdays in unique ways. I turned the big 3 a few weeks ago and they had a surprise birthday thing at my house. They are the most amazing bunch!
Two out of the five of us are September babies and so we had to celebrate two birthdays in a space of weeks.
We opted for dinner at a Chinese restaurant as it was the other september baby’s (LT) favorite place to eat. We were mandated to dress up and come ready to have a great time. Needless to say it was an amazing evening.
I wore my mustard skater dress and a pair of comfortable heels. I was going to the in the presence of women that I adore and feel most comfortable around after all.
Remember that fashion rule about mixing prints! Or is it about not mixing prints? It’s something regarding the mix and matching of prints anyways. Yes, that one! Throw it out.
I say this with the utmost respect for fashion and it’s bible but I think that rule is outdated. Most especially this season tat prints are so in and can be so versatile. I always say fashion was made for fun. If we aren’t having fun wearing the trends or what we love, how we love it, then we are being slaves to fashion.
Some advice… Enjoy the clothes you are in and with the right amount of confidence, you can pull off any outfit that compliments your silhouette.
I paired my H&M sheath print dress with a print scarf in similar color tone and went with a neutral color for my shoes. Always remember to pick one item that’s the focus of your entire outfit. Never overkill with too many statement pieces.
Paper prints and Nudes
T-shirts this season have become major wardrobe essentials. Their importance to our wardrobes has skyrocketed thanks to new and creative prints that further add edge to any outfit.
I paired my paper print boyfriend Tshirt with my straight cut jeans. Them jeans have become my new wardrobe go to. I just love how they fit perfectly and fall at the top of my heels.
I also decided to go with as little accessories as possible. I replaced wearing a necklace for a single badge pinned to my T-shirt instead.
I had an audition today for a styling job, and this was my outfit of choice. I chose comfort; my nude pumps are the most comfortable and versatile shoes I currently own. I love, love them.
Menswear made chic
I have always been a firm believer that Women wear men’s clothes better than the male folks. I think it might be because we understand what to do with accessories while maintaining the feminine touch that’s just the right dose.
Women get all the fun in “fashionville” really. We get to explore so many fashion items, trends and make them work for us.
This season we have seen men’s inspired clothing flood the runway and we have watched the women make it their own by adding a little sexy to it. We rock our boyfriend’s denim way better than our boyfriend’s (LOL).
Fashion is fun. Creating your desired look by trying new things is also fun. Try it as often as you can and create your own unique style that most people if not everyone can identify you by.
Fashion is Retrospective
Fashion and it’s trends have an amazing way of making appearances years after they first made an appearance, with a little twist here and there.
Fashion has been structured uniquely wherein it gets revamped by appearing different, season after season. Trends come and trends go. Here today, gone tomorrow.
As is my usual routine, I was poring through my old and new stack of magazines, searching to be inspired. I found new “old” material and some insightful tricks for the trade.
Did you know that trends from 2006, were back in 2012/2013? The monochrome’s and the neons were hugely part of the fashion scenes in 2006. Amazing isn’t it? How we never really remember till we are it in prints.
6/7years down fashion lane:
With trends, remember the simple rule: “Do not go crazy”. Indulge but do not let it rule you.
Full skirts are Gorgeous!
I wonder so often lately when I became girls and gave up on the shorts and boyish looks. These days I’m so happy playing dress up as a lady would. I love skirts and dresses. The longer, the better. The fuller, the edgier. I can’t help but feel like it’s one of those phases that would soon pass. I shall however enjoy every minute of it while it lasts.
I paired my beautiful print full skirt with a classic oversized white shirt as I was channeling my inner Audrey. I love colors and how they have a certain way of making you glow and putting springs in your shoes. Yes?
Everything you wear has a way of reflecting your style and your mood. I was having a bright morning and I was determined to make it stay that way…
Maxi in Monochrome
I’ve been loving the easy flow of maxi dresses and skirts and just enjoying them to the fullest this season. I also have come to embracing black and white all over again. Throughout university days and law school, I had come to hate the colors. It just felt like I needed a healthy burst of colors in my life. Oh! How the trends come and make it all relatable once again.
I like to wear what I’m most comfortable in, not particularly big on trends, but if I find something that suits me in the current trend? You can be certain I shall gladly indulge. And if those trends last for more than one season? All the better.
This is me making the maxi dress and monochrome trend work double.
Colors make the world a beautiful place. Black and white are basic colors, beautiful canvases to build on. Have fun with your clothes and live.
Imagine… And Birth
Imagine a world where you snapped your fingers and your wishes/dreams/heart desires came true in an instance. What would you wish for daily? Would we still be able to appreciate processes and the need for a birthing process?
I find myself telling people to enjoy the process these days. I find we have all become impatient with “the work” and just now focus on the rewards. Every idea was first conceived by a thought process. To achieve anything great, you must first do the mental work, envision it and then work to making it a reality.
This Ankara buba style top was one of those times. I knew what I wanted in my head and so it took me two full days to conceive, attempt and well execute the task at hand. This was my 1st attempt at making a top since my basic one month fashion school ended.
I hope that we can learn to appreciate the processes of life and enjoy the moment.
I’ve recently picked up this new hobby of reserving most of my Tuesdays for movie marathons. I was converted by two amazing men, who never fail to remind me Monday nights about our day and what other plans we might have. Today was one of those days.
What better way to dress than comfortable right? And bright of course. Add some color to an already anticipated fun day. Plus i love this dress. it’s easy to wear, both for Work and for play. Whoop. Whoop. And grab your flats and be on your jolly way. ????
Scarf prints are so in. Everywhere you look, someone is wearing a scarf print top or blouse, or skirts, or holding a purse with the same theme or better still tying one over braids, hair or even the neck. They have become the IT accessory for the season.
It’s funny how trends spring up even years/seasons after you have rocked it. I’ve always loved scarves. They are my go to accessories especially on days when my locs are having a not so put together moment. I use them as belts, tie them around my neck, on my arm as well. I’ll just say, it’s one trend that I’m glad has caught on eventually.
I was having one of them hair days as described above and well, my scarf came in more than handy. *Wink*. Plus bright and colorful scarves are a great way to turn up the monochrome look of the seasons well.
I have a habit of blowing air kisses. It’s my way of sending some love your way.
Fashion is Art
I mentioned something about taking a basic course in sewing a while back Here. I’m loving my new art as making things myself these days and especially excited about the outcome.
This was the first piece of item I made. Proud to say it took me well over 4 hours to get it to look decent. I decided to style it with a shirt because of the length on the skirt.
For my first attempt at a skirt, i’ll say I did pretty darn good. What’s your verdict?
All Things Bright
Today I just wanted to play around with colors because I was having a bright kind of morning. I love bright colors. I layered my print a line dress with a bright colored cardigan because it was also a rainy morning in gidi. I love this dress because it is so easy to wear and above all very three dimensional. A lady needs such pieces in her closet always. I wore my favorite new earrings with the symbol of Peace!
Breaking Rules; Mixing Prints
Fashion is said to come with a rule book. The Do’s and Dont’s of fashion. This however must be put to the test at some point or the other. Fashion is most times about taking calculated risks and well, looking to hit a lot more times than miss.
I’m not risk averse and i love to experiment with clothes, my view is this – rules were created by some individual who had the power to make them the benchmark at that particular time. I therefore decided to go rouge here when I decided to pair two prints into one outfit because I could. .
I chose a solid and just centered around it, so I had something to fall back on in the event that it didn’t go as planned. I liked how it turned out though eventually. See looks here.
There are days when you wake up and all you want to o is water a comfy T-shirt all through the day even when you know you gotta work. How do you balance this out? I say mix casual and dressy and you can pull it off without any hassles.
I woke up today only wanting to wear a loose T-shirt. I had ironed something the night before but couldn’t even bring myself to wear it. I decided on this instead and I was comfortable with my outfit choice.
