Seasons Greetings!!!

What happened to the excitement of Christmas though?

That Christmasy feeling of Hope… The same one the birth of Christ signified at a point before now and not all the tales of woo and gloom we now have been left with.

Christmas was about showing Love for no reason. I cannot help but question how much of that selfless love has been shown this season. Have I gone bearing gifts?

How many sincere hearty “Season’s Greetings” has anyone received this year? Even the not so hearty ones will be much appreciated at the moment.

I want Christmas where people gave out christmas cards way early in the month, where the cards littered the house and every new card was welcomed with a hint of sarcasm, wishing cakes were brought instead.

“Remove Oil Subsidy”, “Boko Haram”, “2012 Security Budget” sound like all the “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” we have to hold on to this season.

It is sad that we haven’t heard the last of these days but I long for Christmas with genuine anticipation for a better new year ahead and not one filled with utmost fear of future days.

This Christmas I wonder if we can look beyond the strife and struggles and enjoy the Holidays as the harmattan thickens. Can we hit the streets this “festive” season without worrying about the impending doom of the evil ones?

Can I please have Christmas back Nigeria? I refuse to be robbed of the Joy of festivity. I wish it would snow so bad, at least it would reassure me of the death of a year filled with so much chaos and bad news.

My year was not as bad as I portray it but I know people whose lives were hit with turmoil this year, I watched a number of friends mourn their loved ones, I read the news day in day out as houses collapsed on people, bombs went off like fire crackers being played by kids this season, so much anguish, so much pain. I was aware of.

I wish for a better 2012, one not plagued with fear and gloom. I want Hope. I want Christmas as I remember it, peaceful and calm.

All in all, I’m comforted that where there is life, there is hope. So with all my heart, I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

Season Greetings Beautiful people!!!
